HHS Team Receives MSHA Service Excellence Award for New Patient Transport Program
February 10th, 2010
MSHA awarded HHS the management contract for Patient Transport Services at Johnson City Medical Center (Johnson City, Tennessee) starting on December 1, 2009, extending the partnership between HHS and Mountain States Health Alliance, where HHS has provided EVS management services since 2006.
Two months into the program, total transport time and transport delay time per patient has been significantly reduced, and MSHA anticipates it could have a $300,000 annual revenue increase as a result, if all available beds are filled. Combined with patient throughput gains already achieved by the EVS operation, MSHA has the ability to increase total annual revenue by more than $21.5M. As a result, MSHA has awarded HHS the prestigious Service Excellence LEVEL V Quality Award for Patient Throughput in 2009.
EVS Account Director Sheldon Cash, EVS Operations Director Steve Palmer and newly-promoted Transport Operations Director Ron Covington have managed all start-up operations for this new partnership. Thanks to their exceptional leadership , and the dedication of the entire JCMC team , overall performance in the patient transport department at the 470-bed facility increased quickly and substantially in the few short weeks following program implementation.
“We are delighted to continue our successful partnership with HHS building on the successes we have gained in the EVS arena to create even greater efficiencies in the patient transport arena,” says Tom Tull, AVP Guest Services for MSHA. “Steve, Ron, and Sheldon have been very sensitive to the needs of the team members during this transition period and have built a positive rapport with our patient transporters. Their efforts are creating positive gains for our patients.”
The entire HHS Management Team agrees that an early focus on team member morale, unity, and overall job satisfaction has greatly contributed to the program’s success, and has continued to reinforce MSHA’s strong relationship with HHS.
