Illinois Culinary Team Sends Goods to Those Affected by Hurricane Michael
When the HHS Culinary team in Marion, Illinois learned of the devastation caused by Hurricane Michael, and specifically of the many HHS team members who were affected, they knew they wanted to do something to help. The team decided to support the mothers and young children in need by purchasing and shipping boxes of diapers to other HHS team members.
Some members of the team even chose to donate new clothes to the cause, and so far they have sent two shipments of items to the HHS teams in the Florida panhandle affected by Hurricane Michael, and plan to continue their efforts.
"When I told my staff of the situation in Florida, they of course wanted to help."
Culinary Director Julie Moses says that her team enjoys getting involved in the community and helping out where they can:"We love to do things for others and actively participate in many local charity events here in Marion. We participate in the Heart Walk by preparing a basket to raffle and selling hearts, and we do the same for the Arthritis Walk. Last year our team held a raffle to raise funds for a young teen here who was battling cancer. And this year we fed the spouses and family members of the veterans on the 4th Veteran Honor Flight, which flies veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the military and veteran memorials there. When I told my staff of the situation in Florida, they of course wanted to help. I'm happy to work alongside so many caring individuals."
