Wilson’s journey to this recognition is unique and inspiring. Unlike many who enter the food service industry through formal training, Wilson's culinary education began in childhood. "I grew up in the food service industry, really," Wilson shares. "My parents owned a bunch of restaurants. So, it was the school of hard knocks, you know. I grew up in the restaurant industry since I was like 10 years old." This early immersion in the industry provided him with a wealth of experience and ignited a passion for creating "insanely impressive dishes."

This hands-on experience profoundly shaped his approach to leadership. Wilson describes himself as "very hands-on," someone who isn't afraid to "scrub toilets" or "wash dishes" alongside his team. "I work with the team. I communicate with the team," he explains. He also says a strong sense of trust and mutual respect are key ingredients in his success. These people skills are crucial in adding value to the patient experience.
Even as executive director, Wilson rounds on patients daily, understanding the powerful impact a good meal and caring service can have on their day. "I tell my staff this all the time. Those people upstairs may be in pain or may be in hospice… and for us to be able to deliver a meal, I mean, that's something that they have to look forward to," Wilson explains.
A stark contrast to his previous life in San Diego, Palestine has become Wilson's home. He’s built strong connections within the community, engaging in local events and supporting causes close to his heart. Whether it's catering events or mentoring young people, Wilson is deeply invested in the well-being of the people in the community.
For those aspiring to follow in Wilson's footsteps, his advice is simple: "Be yourself," "get out there," and "get outside your comfort zone." He emphasizes the importance of connecting with people, listening to their needs, and being willing to learn.
Rob Wilson is a testament to the power of hands-on leadership, community engagement, and a genuine passion for service.
His story inspires and reminds us that, in Wilson's words, "we're here for a reason.
