Similar to areas of the home that get a lot of foot traffic, high-touch areas are surfaces that are frequently touched by hands. Germs carried on hands can attach to surfaces throughout your home and can transfer from one person to another. This is why disinfecting all the high-touch areas in your home frequently can help prevent the spread of germs.
High-touch areas include:
- Door knobs
- Remote and gaming controls
- Light switches
- Pull handles (refrigerators, cabinets, dressers)
- Faucet handles
- Toilet flush handle and toilet seat
- Control panels (thermostats, security panels)
- Keyboards
- Banister rails
- Chair arms
- Telephones and cell phones
- Low, flat surfaces (counter tops, end tables)
Items needed:
- Multi-purpose disinfectant cleaner
- Microfiber cloth
Procedure:
Check the product label to verify which surfaces the chemical is approved for before use. Spray the chemical on the microfiber cloth, not on the surface directly. Spraying the surface directly may cause damage to electronic items or painted surfaces. For painted surfaces, it is recommended that you first try the chemical in an inconspicuous space. Be sure to wipe or rub the high-touch surfaces with enough friction to remove any soil or bacteria.
