Mashed potatoes are a household favorite across the United States. The standard recipe usually includes russet potatoes, cream or milk, and butter. But this simple recipe can be made new simply by adding some fresh, flavorful herbs. HHS Chef Salvatore Traina shares a new take on an old standby.

Bring a pot of salted water to boil. Add cubed potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain the potatoes in a colander. In a small pan, add milk, butter, and potatoes. Mash and whisk until fluffy. Stir in chopped basil and serve.
