Deep Cleaning Your Kitchen Backsplash and Grout

After cooking a meal, most people usually remember to wipe down the countertops, but may skip the backsplash and grout. Although they both may seem untouched, splatters and bacteria from foods can land here and remain hidden away. A best practice is to wipe down all surfaces in your kitchen after meal prep and do regular deep cleaning on a monthly basis to keep a sanitary cooking space. During your monthly deep cleans, follow these simple steps for cleaning your backsplash and grout from HHS’ housekeeping experts.

Tools Needed

Microfiber cloth

¼ cup baking soda

Small mixing bowl

Small nylon detail brush

Warm water

Procedure
  • Wet the microfiber cloth with warm water, then wipe the surface down to remove any debris or soil.
  • Pour ¼ cup of baking soda into the mixing bowl and add about one to two tablespoons of warm water slowly until a paste is formed.
  • Using the small nylon detail brush, scrub the grout lines with the paste to remove any soil and staining. Be sure not to scrub too hard and look out for damage to the grout lines. If you notice damaged grout, do not scrub as the damaged area may get worse.
  • Once complete, wipe down the area once more with warm water and a microfiber cloth until all of the paste has been removed.
