Contrary to popular belief, the washing machine is not a self-cleaning mechanism. Laundry detergent and hard water minerals commonly build up in the nooks of the drum and cause a foul odor. Mold and mildew also contribute to the smell that may be leaving your clothes dingy. To freshen up your laundry again, it’s good practice to clean your washing machine at least once every three months. Whether it be a front or top-loading washer, we have the perfect guide to ensure your laundry comes out smelling fresh.
What you will need:
Mix the baking soda and water in a measuring cup. Pour the baking soda mixture in the detergent container of your washing machine. Dump the vinegar directly into the drum of the washing machine. Set the washer to normal load at the hottest water setting. Close the door, and start the machine. After the cycle is complete, use the microfiber cloth to wipe around the opening of the machine and to wipe up any remaining residue in the soap dispenser.
What you will need:

Let the cycle run for one minute. Then, open the lid and let the water sit for one hour. Meanwhile, use the toothbrush to scrub the rim of the tub and the agitator. Using bleach, scrub the fabric softener wells. Close the lid and allow the cycle to run completely.
