Tips for Cleaning Ceiling Fans

When it comes to cleaning an important rule of thumb is to clean from top to bottom. However, sometimes we don’t look high enough and forget about our ceiling fans. Over time ceiling fans collect large amounts of dust that can spread throughout your home. That’s why cleaning your ceiling fan on a regular basis will help to control dust and keep your house smelling fresh. Our housekeeping experts shared some tricks of the trade to help you get your ceiling fan sparkling clean.

Tools Needed:

  •  Microfiber cleaning cloths
  • High-dusting extension tool
  • Clean microfiber dust mop head
  • Step ladder*
  • Glass cleaner

Procedure:

Using the step ladder, remove the bulb shades from the ceiling fan. Spraying the glass cleaner on the microfiber cloth, wipe off the dust and debris from the shades. Set the shades down in a safe place while you continue to clean the rest of the fan. Using the high-dusting extension tool and dust mop head, extend the tool to reach the blades of the fan. Clean the blades by starting at the base and moving toward the ends. Be sure to dust both the top and bottom of the blades. Repeat as needed. When complete, place the bulb shades back onto the fan.

*Follow all manufacturer guidelines when using the step ladder to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you.
